Everyday mini tools

Nebulosa Workspace Utilities bring together everyday mini tools: QR codes, unit converter, image compressor, password generator, word counter, colors and contrast, PDF (merge, split, rotate and sign), tasks and notes, and a whiteboard. All in the browser, without sending anything anywhere.

1Getting started

Utilities live in a place separate from the main programs: their own item at the end of the Workspace side menu and a section on the home page, right below the themes. They also appear in search (Alt+K): type “merge PDFs”, “QR code”, “compress image”…

  • The tool list is on the left (on phones, in a strip at the top). All tools goes back to the cards.
  • Everything happens in the browser: no file, text or password is sent to the internet. The tools work offline after being opened once.
  • The moon/sun button switches between light and dark mode. Help has the manual, keyboard shortcuts, appearance (Utilities Default or Nebulosa Default), language, the legal texts and Report a problem.
  • What needs to be kept (tasks, notes, whiteboard, the counter text and saved colors) stays in this browser and is included in the Workspace Backup. Each tool’s options are remembered too.

2QR code

  • Choose the type: Link, Text, Wi-Fi (network name, password, security and hidden network), Contact (business card), Email or WhatsApp (number with country and area code and a ready message).
  • The QR code appears right away, on the right. Under Appearance: error correction (the higher it is, the more dirt or a logo on top it can take), colors, margin and PNG size. A warning appears if the colors have low contrast.
  • Download PNG (regular image), Download SVG (vector, sharp at any size, good for print shops) or Copy image.
  • The content is not stored: when you close it, the fields are empty.

3Unit converter

  • Choose the category: length, area, volume, mass, temperature, speed, time, data, cooking, energy, pressure or fuel economy.
  • Type the value (comma or period) and choose the units; the ⇄ button swaps them. The result also appears in every unit of the category: click a value to copy it.
  • Cooking uses Brazilian kitchen measures: 240 ml cup, 190 ml “American glass”, tablespoon (15 ml), dessert spoon (10 ml) and teaspoon (5 ml), plus the US cup.
  • In Data, KB/MB/GB use 1000 and KiB/MiB/GiB use 1024. In Area, the Brazilian alqueire is 24,200 m² (São Paulo) or 48,400 m² (Minas Gerais).

4Images

  • Drop photos in the dashed area, click to choose or paste with Ctrl+V. You can send several at once.
  • Format: JPEG (photos), WebP (smaller, accepted almost everywhere today), PNG (lossless, good for screenshots and transparency) or Keep. Quality: 80% is usually the best balance.
  • Size: original, up to a width and height limit (for example 1920 × 1920) or a percentage.
  • Each image shows the size before and after and how much it shrank. If it gets bigger (it happens with small PNGs), lower the quality or change the format. Download all (.zip) puts everything in one file.
  • When compressing, the photo’s hidden information (camera, date and location) is removed.

5Password generator

  • Password: choose the length (6 to 64) and the kinds of characters; “avoid look-alike characters” removes I, l, 1, O and 0.
  • Passphrase: randomly drawn words (in the chosen language), with a separator, a capital letter at the start and a number. They are long and easy to remember.
  • The bar shows the estimated strength in bits and how long a very fast computer would take to guess it.
  • Generated now lists the latest passwords on this screen only; when you close it, the list is gone. Nothing is stored.
  • Test a password estimates the strength of a password you type; the calculation is done here and the password never leaves the computer.

6Word counter

  • Type or paste the text: you get words, characters (with and without spaces), sentences, paragraphs, unique words, reading time (200 words per minute) and speaking time.
  • Limits: bars for search engine title and description, YouTube title, SMS, X (Twitter), Instagram and LinkedIn; they turn red when over the limit.
  • Text tools: UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case, Sentence case, remove extra spaces and join lines. Undo brings back the previous text.
  • The text is kept in this browser until you click Clear.

7Colors

  • Pick the color in the selector, with the eyedropper (grabs a color from anywhere on the screen, in Chrome and Edge) or by typing any format: HEX, RGB, HSL, CMYK or names like “navy”.
  • Palettes: complementary, analogous, triad, tetradic, monochromatic and tints and shades. Click a color to copy it; Copy as CSS and Download PNG take the whole palette.
  • Contrast: choose the text and background colors and see the contrast ratio and the WCAG 2.1 badges (AA and AAA, normal and large text, icons and borders).
  • Save color keeps up to 24 colors in this browser.

8PDF

Four parts, in the tabs at the top. Files are not sent to any website. Password-protected PDFs don’t open: remove the password first in the program that created the file.

  • Merge: drop PDFs and images in the order you want; rearrange by dragging or with the arrows. Images become pages (on an A4 sheet or the size of the image). Merge and download makes a single PDF.
  • Split: open a PDF and choose: extract the selected (click the pages; Shift selects a range), remove the selected, by ranges (“1-3, 5, 8-10”: each range becomes a file) or one page per file. Several files come in a .zip.
  • Rotate: rotate each page with its own arrows, or all at once, and save.
  • Sign: draw the signature with the mouse, a finger or a pen, type your name in a cursive style or use a photo of a signature (the white background is removed). Place on the page puts the signature on the open page: drag it to the right spot and use the little dot to resize. Today’s date adds the date. You can sign several pages. It’s a drawn signature, like on paper — not a certificate-based digital signature.
  • The same PDF stays open in Split, Rotate and Sign: you can move from one tab to another.

9Tasks and notes

  • Task board: type the task and press Enter. If you like, choose a due date and a label color first. Tasks go in To do, Doing and Done: drag the cards between columns (with a finger too) or use the arrows. The pencil edits; the trash can deletes. Overdue tasks turn red. Clear, in the Done column, deletes finished tasks.
  • Notes: New note creates a colored slip; type the title and text (it saves by itself). You can pin to the top, change the color and search the notes.
  • Export (.json) saves everything to a file; Import adds an exported file to what already exists (good for moving to another computer).

10Whiteboard

  • Tools in the top bar: select (V), move around (H), pen (P), rectangle (R), ellipse (O), diamond for decisions (L), arrow (A), text (T), sticky note (N), eraser (E) and image.
  • Colors, stroke width and shape fill also apply to whatever is selected.
  • Double-click a shape to write inside it (great for flowcharts); double-click an empty spot to create a text. With Shift, rectangles become squares, ellipses become circles and arrows snap every 45 degrees.
  • Drag on an empty spot to select several things. Delete deletes, Ctrl+D duplicates, the arrow keys move, Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y undo and redo.
  • Move around with Space + drag, the middle mouse button or the wheel; zoom with Ctrl + wheel or the corner buttons (⤢ shows everything).
  • The board saves itself in this browser. Under Save and open: download as an image (PNG) or a drawing (SVG), save the board (.json) to continue elsewhere later, open a saved board or clear everything.

11Inside the Nebulosa Workspace

  • Send to…: the QR code, compressed images, the palette, the finished PDF, the counter text, the task list and the whiteboard can go to other programs with the Send to… button at the top of the Workspace (or the tools’ own buttons).
  • Receiving: Utilities accept images (they go to Images, the Whiteboard or Merge, depending on the open tool), PDFs (they go to PDF) and texts (they go to the Word counter; a short text with the QR code tool open becomes a QR code).
  • Hidden for a long time and with no files open, Utilities rest to save memory and reopen on the same tool.
  • Language, appearance and light/dark mode follow the Workspace choices. Utilities also open on their own, at …/apps/utilidades/, or as the single HTML file, without internet.
