Paz no Bolsoby Nebulosa Workspace

Personal Finance Manager

Paz no Bolso (PazNoBolso, “peace in your pocket”) is your household budget: income and expense entries, recurring bills and installments, a yearly grid with planned and actual amounts, a dashboard with charts, cost centers, investments, reports and export to Excel. The data stays in a file of your own, which you open when you start and save when you finish.

1Getting started

On the start screen, choose:

  • Open data file — the last file you saved.
  • Start new — blank data, with a generic set of categories.
  • Import spreadsheet — brings categories and amounts from a yearly budget spreadsheet (.xlsx).

On a computer that is not yours, check “I am on someone else's computer”: then nothing is stored in that browser.

Amounts are shown in Brazilian reais (R$) and in the Brazilian number format (1.234,56) in every language.

2Saving the data

  • Click Save data whenever you like, and always before closing. The suggested name includes date and time; the most recent file is the one that counts and the earlier ones serve as backups.
  • While “Unsaved changes” is shown, something has not yet gone to the file. If you close like that, the program keeps a temporary copy, offered the next time you open it.
  • In Chrome and Edge, a window opens to choose the folder. In Firefox the file goes to downloads (check “Always ask you where to save files” in Firefox's settings to choose).

3Entries

  • Entries screen: enter date, item, amount and press Enter. In the Item field, type part of the name and pick it from the list (or create a new one).
  • The amount accepts arithmetic, such as 10,80+2,50. “More fields” holds supplier, document, place, cost center and improvement.
  • The list has search and filters by month, category and cost center; Edit, Delete and Undo.

4Recurring bills and installments

Register the monthly bills once and, each month, check the amount and click Post (or post all pending ones). In Installments, enter the installment amount, the total and the date of the first one: the installments are spread across the months, including into the following year.

5Yearly grid, dashboard and tracking

  • Yearly grid: the twelve months side by side, in the modes Year view, Actual, Planned, Difference and % of planned. Colors show where the actual amount was worse or better than planned. Click a cell to see and edit the entries; in Planned mode, type directly in the cells.
  • Dashboard: charts of income and expenses per month, accumulated balance, planned × actual, comparison of recent years and expenses by category.
  • Tracking: planned and actual accumulated up to the chosen month, with a projection for the end of the year.

6Cost centers, improvements and investments

  • Cost centers gather entries from different categories around one subject (Property, Trip, Vehicle…), with income, expenses and the result of each name.
  • Improvements record works with supplier and document, to prove the property's cost in a sale (they do not count in the budget).
  • Investments: applications with institution, holder, dates and amounts; record the balances once a month to build the history of your assets. There is also a history of dollar purchases with average rate.

7Reports, new year, import and export

  • Ready-made A4 Reports: yearly grid, summary, planned × actual, percentages, result by cost center, investments, improvements, analysis and suggestions, comparison between years and the manual. When printing, choose “Save as PDF” if you want the file.
  • Open new year (in Settings and help): proposes the planned amounts from the previous year, with a general adjustment or one per category.
  • Export to Excel: entries, planned amounts and the yearly budget with formulas and drop-down lists. Create empty copy creates a blank file for someone else to use.

8Password and precautions

  • The padlock at the top turns on the password: the data file and the temporary copy become encrypted. Keep the printed recovery key away from the computer — without the password and without the key the data cannot be opened.
  • Keep copies of the data file in more than one place, such as a USB drive. Exported spreadsheets and PDF reports have no password.
  • The complete manual is also in Reports › User manual, inside the program.

9Inside the Nebulosa Workspace

  • Help menu: in the side menu, the Help group has: User manual, Terms of use, Privacy, Credits and licenses and 🌐 Language (the same links are on the start screen). The manual and the legal pages open in a window inside the program itself (you can switch between them with the buttons at the top of the window; Esc closes it).
  • Open PazNoBolso from the side menu, from its card on the home page or from the search (Alt + K).
  • The Appearance button at the top of the Workspace switches PazNoBolso's look between its original look and Nebulosa Default (purple, navy blue, orange and yellow). The choice applies only to this program and is remembered.
  • The Language button (🌐) at the top of the Workspace — or Help › 🌐 Language inside the program — switches the menus and texts between Português do Brasil (the default), English and Español. The choice applies to all programs and is remembered. The names you gave to items and categories are not translated.
  • If you close PazNoBolso's tab with changes not yet saved to a file, the Workspace asks before closing.
  • The shortcuts Alt + 1…9 and Alt + 0 (home) work even with the focus inside the program.
  • PazNoBolso also opens on its own, outside the Workspace, at its folder's address (for example …/apps/paznobolso/) or from the single HTML file.
